The Best Cheap Laptops in 2021
Dell Inspiron 3567 – Music, Movies and Web
Asus VivoBook Flip – Ultraportable
Lenovo IdeaPad 330S – Business
Acer Swift 3 – Video Editing
Lenovo Legion Y530 – Gaming
When our publishers put together a list of the best laptops, the Dell Inspiron 3567 won the nomination for the best option for a small budget. It has a basic display with optional touch-screen support. The 15.6 ″ LCD panel provides the usual resolution of 1,366 by 768. The screen is supported by TN technology, which means narrower viewing angles than on panels with IPS support.
Inside a 0.9-inch thick plastic chassis, the Dell Inspiron 3567 carries the Intel Core i3-6006U processor. They provide excellent performance for the daily computer tasks of average home and office users. The processor can be combined with up to 16 GB of RAM in two available RAM slots and a 500 GB or 1 Terabyte (HDD) hard drive. The Inspiron 3567 / i3567 comes with a built-in DVD optical drive. We tested the model with 4GB of RAM and we were very satisfied with the performance.
Unfortunately, unlike some previous versions, the 3567 does not have a removable back cover dedicated to easy upgrades to RAM and hard drive. You will need to remove the keyboard and the entire bottom cover to access these components.
The battery has a capacity of 40 WHr. There is no official information on battery life, but during our tests it ran for 3.5 hours, with easy use and low screen brightness. It is important to note that the version we recommend comes with Ubuntu (an alternative to Windows that does not require a license-ideal thing for those who are looking for a cheap laptop)
A super portable laptop becomes all the more useful as it is handsome. The 14-inch Asus VivoBook Flip does not disappoint with its slick aluminum look and touch screen. Moreover, the excellent battery life perfectly complements the low dimensions and design. The processor, although only an I3 is 8th generation and has the ability to run at 3.40 GHz, more than enough for any kind of operation on the move.
One of the common criticisms of this model is the small storage space of 256 GB (SSD storage!). If you ask us this can become a problem only when you have a physical database of movies, music and media content for which we recommend using an external hard drive anyway. Another downside is that the keyboard is not lit so it will be a little difficult to use in the dark.
Overall, our publishers were very pleased with this VivoBook Flip and consider it ideal for an option for those who are always on the move, given its small size, minimalist design, low fan noise and long battery life.
Lenovo IdeaPad 330S is equipped with an eight-generation Intel Core 8 i5-8250U processor, offering four cores for powerful multitasking capabilities. Its 4GB memory is enough for most tasks besides high-end games (although we would have liked 8GB more). The 16GB Intel Optane memory along with the 1TB hard drive should be enough to make the system feel light and smooth.
The display is not the most detailed, at a resolution of 1,366 x 768, especially when stretched to 15.6 inches, but it is enough to watch movies at a reasonable clarity and offers plenty of screen space for work and web browsing.
With an average battery life of seven hours, you won't want to travel too far from a charging point. Full-size keyboard is a real boon for typists and those who use it in office work. The finish is also an attractive one, with a special color, welcome in a price class where black and gray dominate.
If you are a creative professional who constantly edits photos and videos, then you will want a discreet GPU that will give you a helping hand. Intel's integrated graphics cards are ok for regular work and everyday use, but even an entry-level GPU, such as the Nvidia GeForce MX150, can make a laptop move much better when it comes to editing content.
That's why I chose Acer Swift 3. For only 3000 lei, you can get an 8th generation Core i5-8265U processor, 8GB of RAM, a 256GB SSD and a 14-inch Full HD screen. More importantly, however, you benefit from the built-in MX150 GPU that applications can access for an additional performance boost.
The Swift 3 is well built with a metal frame, has an attractive and simple design, and should offer enough lifespan to approach a full day of work.
State-of-the-art Lenovo laptops are well thought out and built. The same approach applies to the Y530 with a 15.6-inch display (1080p resolution), 8 GB of RAM and a 1TB hard drive. The combination of the AMD Ryzen 7 2700U processor and the 4G Radeon 560x video card offers the perfect balance between performance and a low price.
Don't expect to be able to run World of Tanks at 144hz with all the details on ultra-high, but your laptop will be more than good for competitive gaming sessions with a decent level of resolution and FPS.
The black case is not the most interesting, but the overall design is unique. Instead of crowding all the ports on both sides of the laptop, Lenovo puts them behind the hinge. Despite its unique hinge design, the Y530 does not exceed a thickness of only 1 inch. Indeed, it is quite slick.
