Evernote has won over millions of users in the space of a few years. It must also be said that there is no shortage of arguments to convince and it even pays itself the luxury of being available on most market platforms. In this context, it may have found its place in your home and if so, then these few lines should be of great interest to you.
And for good reason since this article will list some tips that will allow you to go a little further with the solution.
So of course, the list is not exhaustive. I don't pretend to know everything about Evernote. If you know of other hidden functions, or other tips, you should not hesitate to leave a little comment at the end of the article.
1. Create a note from your mailbox
Not everyone knows this, but you don't necessarily have to launch Evernote to create a new note. In fact, it is also possible to do this by email, by sending a letter to the address associated with your account.
If you don't know it, then just go to the website and browse your account summary. There, at the bottom, you will find this famous address, of type firstname.lastname@example.org .
Not bad, and the best is yet to come because you can also use shortcuts in the subject line to file your note in a particular place. For example, you just need to type @ name-of-notebook to choose the notebook where the note will be stored, or even # my-tag to associate it with a specific keyword.
Evernote had also published a note on his blog with all the information that goes well. It is here , for those who are interested.
Example: My Super Note @monCarnetDeNoteSecret #unTag
2. Create a note from a website
Evernote also offers an extension designed for our browsers. With the Web Clipper, it is possible to create a note from any website, which can be very useful when doing research for example.
If you want to install it, you just have to go to this address from your favorite browser and follow the usual procedure.
When this is done, a new icon will appear in the browser toolbar. You will then just have to go to the page of your choice and click on this famous button to take a capture. What's great, moreover, is that it will be possible to start from the full article, the simplified article or even the full page.
By using the options of the extension, you can define the notebook of your choice and assign keywords to the note. You will also be free to highlight one or more extracts to find them more easily.
3. Scan your documents
Evernote has launched a very comprehensive mobile app on iOS to help us scan our documents. Scannable, that's its name, allows you to scan tickets or business cards and send everything to the cloud of the company in a few moments.
Interesting, but that's not all because this application will also be able to analyze the photos of our business cards to then find the LinkedIn profile of the associated person. Thanks to this system, it will be possible to generate more complete files.
In addition, there is also an advanced sharing function that will allow us to send the document by email or by message to the person of our choice.
On paper, it's rather promising, and I can't wait for the publisher to give us a version of the tool on Android.
4. Use advanced search
Storing your notes is good, but you still need to be able to find them easily afterwards.
Evernote has a search engine built in, of course, and it's pretty comprehensive. This being the case, it is also possible to use special operators to go a little further. There are about ten of them, and they are all listed on this page if you are interested.
Among the most useful are the “tag:” to indicate a specific keyword, or even the “created: YYYYMMDD” to restrict the display of results to a specific date. The same goes for the “updated:” or for the “resource:” which will allow us to search for a particular medium.
The whole point is that these filters can be combined perfectly.
5. Use IFTTT recipes
It was impossible to write an article dedicated to Evernote without mentioning IFTTT and it is quite logical because this service will allow us to multiply the possibilities of the tool.
If you don't know it yet, IFTTT presents itself a bit like an intermediary. Its role is quite simple, it allows different departments to communicate together. Thanks to it, we can create rules to automate certain tasks.
The platform offers several thousand “recipes” designed for Evernote. They will allow you, for example, to send all emails marked with a specific label to your personal cloud or even to connect Evernote to your Pocket to keep a copy of the content of your choice .
The possibilities are numerous and if you want to see more, the best is still to go to this address .
Finally, note that all of these tips work with the free version of the solution.
