Netflix offers a lot of interesting functions and they are far from all known. In fact, there are even a lot of hidden options, options that will allow you to take full advantage of the service's catalog. Better, some of them will even save you a lot of time on a daily basis.
This list is obviously far from exhaustive. If you know other tips, do not hesitate to share a little comment after the article.
Same thing if you have questions, of course.
1. Access hidden categories
Netflix offers ten or so different categories by default in the “browse” section. Series are naturally present, as are documentaries, animes or even films.
Those who want to go further can even explore the content offered by genre and thus display all action films or even all science fiction works on a single page.
This is very convenient, but there are also many hidden categories, accessible through a direct link.
To display them, all you have to do is type in your browser the address http://www.netflix.com/browse.genre/### and replace the sharps with the numeric identifier of your choice. Mashable also had fun listing them all on this page .
2. Set the quality of the stream
Not everyone knows this, but Netflix allows its users to ultimately configure the quality of their stream.
To do this, the latter must first connect to the service and click on his portrait, in the upper right corner. After having clicked on the option “my account”, it will see appear on one and the same page a series of several links referring to very specific options.
By clicking on “playback parameters”, he will be redirected to a page allowing him to select the quality of his stream. He will then have the choice between four different options: auto , low , medium and high . Further down, he will also find another option to activate (or deactivate) the automatic launch of the next episode.
3. Use (and abuse) profiles!
Netflix allows its customers to create several different profiles.
This system has been put in place to allow members of the same family to have their own account… and their own recommendations. This is obviously very interesting when you are the head of a large family, but it does not represent much interest when you live alone.
Finally, this is not entirely correct, because you can also use these profiles to better organize your activity. Nothing prevents you, for example, from creating a profile for films, another for series and another for animes. By structuring your navigation in this way, you will be able to benefit from more precise recommendations.
4. Take advantage of keyboard shortcuts
If you mostly use Netflix on your PC, then you'll probably be happy to learn that the service recognizes many different keyboard shortcuts:
- Space bar: pauses playback.
- Up and down arrow: increase or decrease the volume.
- F key: switch to full screen mode.
- Ctrl + left arrow: fast rewind.
- Ctrl + right arrow: fast forward.
- M button: mute the sound.
It doesn't sound like much, but they can be very practical when you control your PC from a distance from the back of the sofa … or even from the bed.
5. Delete your history
By default, Netflix keeps track of all content viewed by the user. If you are a fan of Peppa Pig and don't want this to be publicized, then it will be better to think about cleaning up behind.
Fortunately, the service offers a menu entirely dedicated to the thing.
To open it, all you have to do is connect to the service and go to the account settings, following the steps described a little above. Then all you have to do is click on the “history” menu to see all the content viewed on your account.
All you have to do is click on the cross corresponding to the item to be deleted to remove it from your history. Moreover, you will find on this same page a tab referring to your evaluations. It will allow you to delete them, but also to modify them.
