8 tips to go further with WhatsApp

WhatsApp is very successful around the world. Now, more than two billion users regularly connect to the solution in order to exchange and discuss with their relatives or their employees.

This success is of course due to its end-to-end encryption, but also to the many functions integrated into its applications.

8 Tips To Go Further With Whatsapp
There is a plethora of tips to go further with WhatsApp

Today, it has therefore become almost impossible to do without the solution and here are precisely 9 tips that will allow you to go further with the tool.

This file has been developed from version 2.20.92 of WhatsApp. Make sure you have the same version.

1 / Send a message to a person who is not in our WhatsApp contacts

By default, WhatsApp only allows you to send messages to people who are in our contacts. However, there is a trick to circumvent this limit.

Be careful though, because to use it, you will need an iPhone. You will indeed have to rely on the Shortcuts application.

To be able to take advantage of this trick, you will have to authorize unapproved shortcuts by going to the settings of your phone: you will have to open the settings, click on the “shortcuts” menu and activate the “Allow untrusted shortcuts” option.

Then, you will have to activate the shortcut by following this link from Safari , directly from your iPhone. iOS will ask you to validate your choice and you will then have to accept.

The shortcut will then be added to the Shortcuts app and just tap on it to launch it. There, you will simply have to enter the number of your correspondent and validate your choice. WhatsApp will launch immediately and all you have to do is type your message.

2 / Block someone on WhatsApp

WhatsApp being a very popular service, it is also very often targeted by malicious users. It is therefore not uncommon to receive unwanted messages from time to time.

Fortunately, nothing forces you to suffer these excesses. If a contact is ill-intentioned or too urgent, it will suffice to block it to definitively resolve the problem.

And there, two solutions are available to you:

  1. Open a conversation with the person to be blocked.
  2. Tap on the part where its name is displayed.
  3. WhatsApp opens the contact card.
  4. Scroll through its content.
  5. Click on the “block this contact” button.
  6. Confirm your choice.

Or :

  1. Go to the app settings.
  2. Open the “account” menu.
  3. Open the “privacy” menu.
  4. Scroll through the content of the page.
  5. Tap the "Blocked" button.
  6. Tap on the “Add New” button.
  7. Enter the name of the contact to block.

3 / Free up memory on WhatsApp

WhatsApp sometimes tends to take up too much space. And even more when you are used to sharing videos or photos with your contacts, of course.

This is obviously a problem for anyone who uses an entry-level or mid-range device. Fortunately, the tool's publisher has planned the blow and WhatsApp makes it easy to clean your phone.

The procedure to follow is not very complicated:

  1. Go to the app settings.
  2. Tap on “Data and Storage Usage”.
  3. Tap on “Storage Usage”.
  4. Tap on the conversation to clean up.
  5. Tap on the “Manage” link at the very bottom.
  6. Select the type of files to delete.
  7. Tap on the “Erase” link.
  8. Confirm by tapping on the “Delete” link again.

Important note, the heaviest conversations automatically appear at the top of the list. This lets you know which chats are taking up the most space on your phone.

4 / Know who you chat with the most on WhatsApp

This fourth tip is derived from the previous one, but it can be interesting in some cases.

It sometimes happens that we wonder with whom we have the most contacts on WhatsApp, and therefore that we want to know the people with whom we interact the most.

Rather than going through each conversation and counting the messages within it – please don't – just rely on the in-app storage manager:

  1. Open WhatsApp settings.
  2. Go to the “Data and storage usage” menu.
  3. Tap on “Storage Usage”.
  4. Observe the list of conversations.

As mentioned above, WhatsApp automatically categorizes conversations by bringing up those that take up the most space on the device. And if you tap on a conversation, then you will see detailed statistics appear… like the number of messages associated with the discussion.

Thanks to this function, you will be able to identify the people with whom you interact the most.

5 / Customize the wallpaper of a WhatsApp conversation

The interface of WhatsApp can sometimes seem a little austere, but the publisher of the solution has implemented several functions that allow it to be a little more cheerful.

One of them is simply to allow us to personalize the wallpaper of our conversations.

Once again, the procedure is quite simple:

  1. Launch WhatsApp.
  2. Go to settings.
  3. Tap on the “Discussions” menu.
  4. Tap on the “Wallpaper” menu.
  5. Choose a type of wallpaper and image of your choice.

WhatsApp lets you choose between three types of wallpapers, a collection directly integrated into the application, a solid color or the photo of your choice. However, the background defined will be the same for all conversations that take place through the application.

6 / Stay hidden on WhatsApp

It can sometimes happen that you feel the need to isolate yourself from the rest of the world … and social networks.

WhatsApp allows us to configure the way in which other users can access our data. By activating the right options, it is therefore possible to hide from the eyes of other users.

At least provided you know where these famous options are:

  1. Launch WhatsApp.
  2. Go to the app settings.
  3. Tap on the “Account” menu.
  4. Continue by tapping on the “Confidentiality” menu.
  5. Tap on the “Seen at” option.
  6. Select the “person” option.

Now, no one will be able to see when you last logged in.

7 / Share your location on WhatsApp

WhatsApp isn't just about text messages. The application allows you to share a lot of different content, such as stickers, photos or videos.

But the tool doesn't stop there and it also allows you to share your location in order to show people of your choice where you are.

Very practical, especially when you have to join friends, colleagues or even family members:

  1. Launch WhatsApp.
  2. Open a conversation with the person of your choice.
  3. Tap the “+” in the message entry bar.
  4. Select the “location” option.
  5. Then select the “Share live location” option.

Important note, WhatsApp ask you to choose the duration during which your location will be shared, with three possible choices: 15 minutes, 1 hour or 8 hours.

8 / know if someone blocks you on WhatsApp

And we end this selection with a tip that should interest a lot of people. It will indeed allow you to very easily know if someone is blocking you on WhatsApp.

Be careful, however, because the trick in question is not infallible either.

To do so, simply follow the following steps:

  1. Open WhatsApp.
  2. Open the discussion with the person you are interested in.
  3. Tap on the person's name to access their file.
  4. Observe his profile image carefully.

If it hasn't changed for a long time when your contact used to change it frequently in the past, then there's a good chance they've blocked you. When a user blocks another, his profile remains frozen at the moment when the block is put in place.

And if you then want to make sure he has blocked you, then just send him a message. If only one checkmark appears, then it's probably because it no longer allows you to contact it.
