We were talking about the Acer Nitro 5 in May when the Computex announced this terminal designed for less fortunate gamers. Marketed from $ 799, the latter offered a choice of an Intel / Nvidia or 100% AMD configuration. Only here, things have evolved since the spring of 2017 as regards AMD. Acer is therefore taking advantage of CES to launch a new version of its Laptop .
This time, the Taiwanese manufacturer is completely leaving Intel and Nvidia aside to launch a new iteration of its bike. A 2018 version powered only by AMD-stamped components. Ryzen is therefore present in force through “low consumption” chips, however, Acer's choice of GPUs is a bit disappointing …
Probably in order to reduce the invoice as much as possible, the firm has indeed opted for a graphics part based on a “modest” RX 560X. Not enough to jump to the ceiling then, but as Acer reminds us, the Nitro 5 is more designed for casual players or esports enthusiasts (titles like Overwatch, DoTA 2, League of Legends or Counter Strike: GO are therefore targeted ).
Ryzen to the rescue for a balanced technical sheet if not stunning …
On the CPU side, things are more exciting. There are indeed the Ryzen 5 2500U and Ryzen 7 2700U. Acer announces a starting price of 900 euros in France for the version including the Ryzen 5 and does not yet communicate the price of the model (s) with the Ryzen 7. It will probably be necessary to count on a minimum of 200 euros additional to pay the favors.
For the rest, the hardware configuration is as follows: in addition to an RX 560X, Acer has provided its PC with a 15.6-inch Full HD IPS panel, but also 8 GB of DDR4 RAM, 128 GB of SSD and 1TB hard drive. However, the manufacturer indicates that up to 32 GB of RAM and 512 GB of SSD will be available on the most expensive model.
In terms of connectivity, finally, the terminal has USB 3.0 / USB Type-C inputs, an HDMI 2.0 video output, an Ethernet port, a 2.5 mm jack output and 802.11ac WiFi.
The precise launch date of the Nitro 5 in France remains unclear. Knowing that the aircraft will land in April in the United States, it's a safe bet that it will find its way into our regions during the spring.
