Little by little, Alienware is equipping its various desktop PCs with RTX 20 series. The latest device to benefit from a new generation chip from Nvidia, the Aurora , one of the latest variants of which now includes an RTX 2080. It is not the first time that Dell (the parent company of Alienware) has added a GeForce RTX to one of its stationary PCs. The new Area 51 indeed also embeds several versions equipped with RTX 2080, with each time the muscular configurations that go with it (whether through AMD or Intel processors ) and prices which soar.
Slightly more modest in terms of configuration, the Aurora still aims for an uncompromising gaming experience . But instead of the supercharged processors offered with the Area 51 (Intel Core i9-7980XE / AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1950X, in particular), the Aurora for its part, in its high-end version equipped with a GeForce RTX, on a “simple” Core i7-8700K coupled with a minimum of 16 GB of RAM. If you had any doubts, this is enough to play in 4K in excellent conditions.
Note that the manufacturer offers as usual to freely configure the amount of RAM and storage that you want to add to the set, to build a machine equipped with up to 64 GB of RAM and 2 TB of SSD. Of course, under these conditions, prices tend to climb very quickly well above 3000 euros.
For now, Alienware is only betting on the RTX 2080
If the various fully equipped PC manufacturers are gradually moving towards the new chips from Nvidia, it should be noted that for the moment Alienware does not go beyond the RTX 2080 – the intermediate model that Nvidia presented in August last, shortly before the opening of Gamecom.
No RTX 2080 Ti in sight on the manufacturer's catalog. There is no doubt that the thing will eventually happen (for prices that we do not even dare to imagine). In any case, it will be necessary to match the competition, and in particular MSI, which presented its Trident X at the beginning of September, a bike equipped with Core i5, i7 or i9 and an RTX 2080 Ti.
Clad in RGB LEDs and contained in a compact case, the whole thing does not yet have a release date or launch price. In the meantime, the Alienware Aurora is available now in the United States and from $ 2,155 for the version equipped with a Core i7-8700K, 16 GB of RAM, an RTX 2080, 256 GB SSD and 2 TB HDD.
