Without a doubt, the video game event of the end of 2020, in the good and bad sense of the word: the launch of the video game blockbuster Cyberpunk 2077 by CD Projekt RED on December 10 was one of the most impressive. by its numbers, its impact on the public unconscious whether it is hardcore gamer or occasional gamer, and its media disaster.
Caught in the storm of the more than dramatic state of gaming on older-generation consoles (that's it, we can say old now?) PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the Polish studio finds itself making a public apology on the networks social networks with a never-before-seen reimbursement system.
We recall the facts already described on your favorite site : the basic PS4 and Xbox One versions (understand by that PS4 fat and slim and Xbox One and Xbox One S excluding One X) currently suffer from huge technical problems ranging from various severe bugs to crashes through major texture streaming concerns and a most catastrophic framerate close to the limits of the slideshow.
CD PROJEKT RED apologizes
If the world of video games is no stranger to outdated launches, Cyberpunk 2077 presents itself as a textbook case with framerates regularly dropping below 20 frames per second, all in a display resolution of the least graceful – especially on Xbox One.
Studio chief president Adam Kaciński reacted to the situation alongside the other heads of CD Projekt RED by issuing their most flattering apologies on behalf of the studio:
“ First of all, we apologize to you for not showing the game running on legacy base consoles prior to release and, therefore, not allowing you to make a more informed decision about your game. purchase ”We should have devoted more attention to making it run better on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. “
This last sentence does not seem the best shot – between the massive installed base of these consoles and the volume they represent in the pre-order figures (being calculated at several million), not to have made a decision as to the expected technical sinking seems absurd. Especially since Adam Kaciński himself said he was surprised to see how the game “ turned out ” on these same consoles at the end of last November .
Fixes already announced
Two large patches are thus already planned to alleviate the bulk of these problems on older-generation consoles – one in January, then the other in February – and several other fixes will also be put online in the meantime, as long as on these platforms than on PC – one of which is expected by next week. In addition, players who purchased the game digitally on consoles can proceed with a refund via the PSN and Xbox stores now – as for those who have opted for the physical format, an email contact has been set up ( !) to help players who cannot get a refund for their copy through their reseller.
Case to follow for one of the biggest fiascos of the year.
