Introduced last October by its manufacturer, the Nokia Lumia 1520 caused a sensation when it was released and it is quite logical since it is the very first phablet running Windows Phone . A phablet that has nothing to envy the competition with its 6-inch Full HD screen and Snapdragon 800. Yes, and imagine that Nokia was kind enough to lend me a copy of its new terminal …
Getting started requires, this article is not intended to list exhaustively all the features and advantages of the Lumia 1520. To know everything about this extraordinary terminal, you will have to wait for the full test which will be published this week. next, or the one after. In the meantime, if you have any questions, it's a good time to ask them since the rascal is still in my possession.
In addition to its monumental dimensions, the Nokia Lumia 1520 amazes with its technical sheet. It has absolutely nothing to envy the competition and the terminal is thus similar to all high-end smartphones of the moment. It is almost terrifying:
- 6 inch ClearBlack IPS display.
- Definition in Full HD 1080p (1920 × 1080), pixel density fixed at 368 ppi.
- 24-bit / 16 million color TrueColor display.

At present, the Lumia 1520 is therefore the most powerful Windows Phone on the market. Apart from the on-board platform, the only difference with the Galaxy Note 3 is in the RAM: 2 GB against 3 GB for the latter . The 1520's battery is also a little more massive, reaching 3,400 mAh. However, it will be necessary to wait a few more recharging cycles to have a more precise idea of its autonomy.
And then there is its sensor, a sensor that displays the same definition as that of the Sony Xperia Z1, while taking advantage of the PureView technology dear to Nokia. I had fun taking a few pictures and the results really aren't bad.
I don't have enough hindsight yet to talk about the terminal's overall performance, but I can at least tell you one thing: its screen is beautiful. It's a start, is not it ?
Design & Ergonomics
First of all, the Nokia Lumia 1520 surprises with its size. It is gigantic. However, and contrary to popular belief, it is hardly more imposing than a Galaxy Note 3. If you are used to using phablets, then you should feel right at home.
Aesthetically speaking, the 1520 looks like all the latest Lumia with a pretty polycarbonate shell with rounded edges. The tastes and the colors are always a bit subjective but, from my point of view, the design of the terminal is really very successful. But the most surprising, ultimately, is its finesse. I expected a much thicker mobile, to be honest. There, we are on something comparable to the last phablet from Samsung.
The ergonomics are essentially the same as on all the devices in the range. Above the huge screen, we will find the Nokia logo along with the front camera and the various usual sensors. We will always be entitled to the sensitive buttons at the bottom, buttons that only appear when the 1520 screen is on. All the controls are located on the right edge with the two buttons dedicated to the volume control, the power button and the shutter button. It will also suffice to press for a few seconds on the latter to open Nokia Camera.
The left edge, it, houses two hatches concealing the two onboard ports, the SIM card port and the microSD card port. You will need to use a special accessory delivered with the terminal or a paper clip to open them.
Without being as massive as on the Lumia 1020, the photo module of the 1520 protrudes a few centimeters from the hull, about as much as that of the Note 3. It's not very annoying. The dual LED flash is located just above.
The whole is coherent. The Lumia 1520 may not be the prettiest terminal on the market, it's true, but it's still some of the most attractive.
If you have read my handling of the Nokia Lumia 1020 , then you certainly know that I have always been very sensitive to the charms of the terminals in the range. The 1520 is no exception to the rule. I think we're going to have a great time together over the next few days.
Especially since the latter was delivered to me with the latest update from Nokia: the Lumia Black . The latter brings a number of welcome novelties, novelties that will be discussed in my full test. We will thus see how the application files work, and we will also be interested in the new applications offered by the firm and in particular in Refocus. In short, as the other would say, we will not have time to be bored.
I end with the usual unboxing video.
