Windows 10 has a customizable interface. If the user wishes, he can actually change the color of his tiles and other graphic elements such as the start menu or even the window header. It's not bad but there are better because the system also includes a dark theme.
Yes, but the option to activate it does not yet exist. Result of races, if you want to take advantage of it, you will have to roll up your sleeves and go snooping in the system registry.
The first thing to do will therefore be to save this famous database so that you can go back in the event of a problem. After all, it would still be a shame to gun down your new installation, right?
Back up the registry
Start by sticking to your machine then swing a little Windows + R to display the “Run” dialog box. There, you will simply have to type “regedit” in the field dedicated to this purpose and validate everything by clicking on the “Ok” button.
A new window will appear on the screen. Open the "File" menu and click on the "Export" option.
Windows will ask you to choose the destination directory. Do it and give your file a name. Finally click on the “Save” button to validate the export.
Enable Windows 10 Dark Theme
Now that everything is ready, all you have to do is activate this famous theme.
It will start by opening the registry editor by following the instructions in the previous paragraphs. When this is done, you will need to navigate through the key tree, to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows folder.
Then continue by opening the key “CurrentVersion” then “Themes”.
Now, you will have to create a new key by going to the “Edit” menu, “New” then “Key”. Call it “Personalize”.
When it's done, create a new DWORD32 value by going back to the “Edit” menu. Give it the name “AppsUseLightTheme” and assign it the value “0”.
How? 'Or' What ? By right-clicking on it, going to find the “Modify” option and entering the value in the field present on the dialog box.
It's not finished yet because you'll have to create the same key in HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Themes . No need to detail the procedure, it does not change.
Now, you will have to restart your machine. If you go to the settings, then you will be entitled to a beautiful black background. Awesome, isn't it?
Certainly and if you want to go back, it is not complicated because it will suffice to pass the value of the entry DWORD32 to “1”.
