How to block the update to Windows 10?

Windows 10 has many qualities, it is undeniable, but it is not appreciated by everyone either, especially since Microsoft has opted for a rather aggressive strategy. The firm is indeed ready to do anything to encourage us to install it on our machine, even to force our hand. However, it is possible to block the update with a few clicks, and without necessarily needing technical knowledge.

It must be admitted, Microsoft has chained the balls in recent weeks and the most striking example is undoubtedly that of this famous pop-up mentioned in this article.

How To Block The Update To Windows 10

It is very easy to block the update to Windows 10… when you know how to do it.

It was enough to try to close it by clicking on the cross at the top right to … launch the installation of Windows 10 on the machine.

The tone quickly rose and the firm was the target of strong criticism following the implementation of this notification. So she ended up modifying her system to calm things down. Unfortunately, this did not have the desired effect and many Internet users still have it bad.

As indicated a little above, it is however possible to block this update very easily and there are also several methods to do it. This article is not intended to be fully comprehensive, but it should still be useful to you.

Method 1: tweak the registry

If you are not comfortable with your computer, it will be best not to go for this method. It is not necessarily very complicated but it requires a minimum of technical knowledge since it consists in modifying the keys present in the registry.

But before doing so, you will need to make sure to install patches on your machine by relying on Windows Update: KB3065987 on Windows 7 or KB3065988 on Windows 8.1.

When it's done, just click on the start menu button and click on the “run” option. Then type “regedit” in the window and validate by pressing the enter key on your keyboard.

The registry window will then appear on the screen.

Go to this key:

 HKLM \ SOFTWARE \ Policies \ Microsoft \ Windows \ WindowsUpdate

Then right click in the right area and find the option “New” then “Dword (32-bit) Value”. Give it the name “DisableOSUpgrade” and assign it a value of “1”.

Then proceed by going to this second key:

 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Policies \ Microsoft \ Windows \ GWX

Once again, right click on the right part of the window and go for the option “New” then “Dword (32-bit) Value” and give it the name of “DisableGWX”. Then change its value to “1”, as before.

Method 2: go through a utility

If you don't want to bother and if you are very, very afraid of breaking your computer, then the best is probably to use a utility because it will take care of everything for you.

Sensing the right thing, many developers have embarked on this segment and there are dozens of different tools.

In the batch, one can in particular quote GWT Control Panel . It is quite popular among users and it is accompanied by more comprehensive documentation in English.

His head does not come back to you? No problem, you can also opt for Never 10 . It has the good idea of being offered in a “portable” version and it will therefore not be necessary to install it to take advantage of its services. All you have to do is download it, launch it and click the “Disable Win10 Upgrade” button.

Interestingly, it will also offer you to delete the Windows 10 installation files with another button.
