Evernote is a very complete and very interesting service, but its publisher recently decided to change its pricing policy. The free version of the service is now much more limited and therefore of less interest. Fortunately, alternatives exist and OneNote is obviously one of them.
Some of you may be considering taking the plunge. Yes and if this is your case then you are probably wondering if it is possible to get your old notes back on OneNote.
Fortunately, this is the case and Microsoft even had the intelligence to develop a utility to simplify our life, a utility available on both Windows and OS X.
Microsoft has developed a tool to help us move from Evernote to OneNote
The first thing to do is to download it by going to this address . Only imperative, to run it, you will need a machine under Windows 7 or under OS X El Capitan 10.11. Or better, of course, since the tool also works on Windows 8.x and Windows 10. The opposite would have been amazing, mind you.
When it's done, simply run the installation process and carefully follow the on-screen steps. The procedure is quick and it won't take you more than a minute.
Note however that the tool is perfectly capable of importing from an .enex file. If you want to know more about this format, you can go here .
Before launching the import with the Microsoft utility, you will obviously have to synchronize your notes on the Evernote client by opening it and letting it work. This step is also the longest, especially if you have many notebooks associated with your account. There, you will have to be very patient.
A simple and painless procedure
The tool will automatically retrieve your notes and notebooks. It will also display several flying windows showing you the progress of the operations launched by it. Once again, patience will be required and it will be necessary to let him work quietly in his corner.
After that, it will display the list of all indexed notebooks. Each element will be accompanied by a checkbox and you just have to uncheck the boxes of the elements that do not interest you. Then go to the next step by clicking on the corresponding button.
The utility will then ask you to identify yourself using your Microsoft account. It will be possible to opt for either a personal account or a pro / student account. Simply click on the button corresponding to your situation and enter your identifiers in the process.
By default, OneNote will create new notebooks corresponding to notebooks created on Evernote, but you will also be able to use your keywords to organize your content more easily. Up to you. Then, simply click on the “import” button to start the operation.
And now, it's over. Now all you have to do is go to OneNote to clean up and verify that all your notes have been retrieved.
