OnePlus begins the year on the hats of the wheel and the manufacturer thus deployed at the beginning of the week a new beta of the OnePlus 5 platform, a beta allowing the terminal to switch to Android 8.0. Here's how to install it now.
Before going any further, it is of course necessary to start with a cautionary note.
OxygenOS Open Beta 3 is indeed not a stable version and it will therefore be preferable not to install it on a terminal in production.
Also, if you want to take the plunge, then it will be better to first back up the entire content of your phone to avoid losing it in the event of a problem. Finally, note that the manufacturer does not guarantee the proper functioning of this version on rooted devices.
To install Oreo on your OnePlus 5, you will mainly need three different things:
- A computer running Windows, Linux, or macOS.
- A OnePlus 5 benefiting from all the final updates.
- The OxygenOS Open Beta 3 ZIP ( available at this address ).
NB: Mac users must also download and install Android File Transfer on their machine. The app can be picked up here .
The objective will then be to transfer the files from the platform to the destination OnePlus 5. The procedure to follow is relatively simple.
After having physically connected the phone to your computer, you will have to activate the file transfer by tapping on the appropriate option from the action center. When this is done, a drive corresponding to your phone will appear in your file manager and you will just have to drag the ZIP file downloaded previously into the folder of your choice.
The operation may take a little while depending on your computer.
Installing the update
The first phase is over, congratulations. The hardest part is still to come, however, because you will now have to install OxygenOS Open Beta 3 from your terminal.
Basically, the procedure will be to switch to recovery mode and then load the ZIP through the dedicated wizard. To avoid any unpleasant surprises, make sure you have charged your phone to at least half the capacity of its battery.
To get started, simply turn off your phone by pressing the power button for a few seconds and tapping on the “Shutdown” option. Wait a moment.
With the phone off, simultaneously press the volume key – and the power button. Wait for the brand's logo to appear and then release the two buttons.
The OnePlus 5T will automatically enter recovery mode and ask you to enter your password. The screen will be black, but the virtual keyboard will appear in the zone located at the bottom and it will be enough to tap on the letters composing your code or your password and to validate the whole by pressing the enter key.
The terminal will then display a menu made up of three entries intended for the choice of language. The first two are written in Chinese and the third in English. Tap on the last one.
The OnePlus 5 will then load another menu consisting of five options: install from internal storage , install from ADB , wipe data and cache , advanced and exit .
The first option is the right one. After tapping on it, the terminal will ask you to tell it the local file to use for installing the update. All you have to do is go to the folder where you transferred the ZIP file and select it.
The installation of the platform will start upon validation and it will last between five and ten minutes on average. The OnePlus 5 will then restart and it will finalize the installation of the platform in the background of the task by indicating the progress in the notification center.
Among the various new features brought by this version, we find in particular the integration of the Face Unlock of the OnePlus 5T. It works very well and you can activate it by going to your phone's settings.
