Motorola is back with the Motorola Edge S , a high-end smartphone featuring a Snapdragon 870 and thus offering full support for the sacrosanct 5G.
The look is neat. Motorola opted for a glass case, with a metal frame and a back displaying an interesting light effect. Nothing to say either on the side of the facade. Here, the builder has left on a screen with contained borders. The panel is however less curved than on the Motorola Edge, which is ultimately a bit of a shame.
Another interesting feature, the screen does not have one, but two punches… which are of course occupied by front cameras.
Motorola Edge S: a slick design and an interesting technical sheet
The cameras in question have a definition of 16 and 8 million pixels and they will be able to work together to generate beautiful portraits … but not only. Motorola has indeed integrated a function into the platform that will allow the Edge S to measure the heart rate of its owner by analyzing his face.
The technical sheet is solid. The screen thus reaches 6.7 inches in 21: 9 format and is capable of displaying Full HD +, with a refresh rate of 90 Hz. Motorola, on the other hand, has not opted for an OLED panel, but LCD . And of course we hope that he did not look at the expense and that he knew how to choose a quality panel.
The real peculiarity of the Motorola Edge S, at least technically, is the presence of a Snapdragon 870. This chip was recently presented by Qualcomm and it is positioned above the Snapdragon 865+, with which it shares finally a lot of common traits. To go with it, there are 6 or 8 GB of RAM and a 5G Snapdragon x55 modem, with storage space between 128 and 256 GB – several models will indeed be marketed.
The photographic shutter is based on three sensors placed at the back.
Some lacks in the photo, but an attractive price
The main sensor reaches 64 million pixels and it comes with optics opening at f / 1.7. Then there is a 16 million pixel sensor associated with an optic offering a 121 ° field of view and capable of taking macro photos. The last sensor reaches 2 million pixels and it is devoted to the depth of field. The zoom audio responds and we also have a ToF sensor.
The fingerprint reader is placed on the edge of the phone, a phone that has a headphone jack and is splash resistant. In addition to 5G, it also offers compatibility with WiFi 802.11 ax and Bluetooth 5.1. The battery reaches 5,000 mAh and is compatible with 20 W fast charging.
The selling price remains contained and it will start around $ 300 for the first model, against $ 370 or $ 430 for versions with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage or with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. Which is ultimately very interesting given all that it offers.
Only downside, for the moment, only China can take advantage of it and we do not know when it will be released in France.
