If you're one of the fans who felt a huge void after the Vikings series finale, you might not need to say goodbye to your favorite series right away. Indeed, after these six intense seasons, the Vikings series has been a resounding success at the height of Game of Thrones, so much so that Netflix has decided to beat the iron while it is still hot. How? 'Or' What ? By adding a suite!
Vikings: Valhalla is the spin-off of Michael Hirst's series. But in this sequel, the creator of Vikings will be "only" executive producer and the reins will be held by Jeb Stuart, a well-known thriller scriptwriter, to whom we attribute for example Crystal Trap or The Fugitive.
A change of mood is thus to be expected but those who fear an alienation of the original work can be reassured, even the creator of Vikings has recognized that this sequel was really good.
If this spin-off intrigues you as much as we do, let's take a look at what to expect in Vikings Valhalla and who will be the characters!
A series that goes beyond the original work
First of all, let's underline the fact that Netflix has expressed its desire to extend the Viking universe and mythology beyond the original series. Ecranlarge tells us that this spin-off will take place after the events of the Vikings series and more precisely… a hundred years later. On the synopsis side, here's what we know:
Vikings Valhalla starts at the beginning of the 11th century and tells the legendary adventures of some of the most famous Vikings who ever lived – Leif Eriksson Freydis Eriksdotter Harald Hardrada and the Norman King William the Conqueror. These men and women will lead the way as they fight for their survival in an ever-changing world.
If after reading this synopsis, you feel really out of place compared to the original work, Michael Hirst, the creator of Vikings, reassures us in an interview with Collider that:
I just have a sort of supervisory role, I haven't written anything myself. I am an executive producer. But Jeb Stuart, of course, he's a lot more of a thriller writer, stuff like that. So it will look different, but it's still good, really good, from what I've seen so far.

What about the characters?
In Vikings: Valhalla, we will therefore follow the adventures of legendary historical figures such as Nordic explorer Leif Erikson, played by Sam Corlett; Danish King Canute, as Bradley Freegard; Freydis Eriksdotter, whose role will be played by Frida Gustavsson; Harald Sigurdsson, played by Leo Suter; Olaf Haraldson, played by Johannes Haukur Johannesson; Emma of Normandy, whose role is attributed to Laura Berlin; Earl Godwin, played by David Oaks; Jarl Haakon, played by Caroline Henderson; Queen AElfgifu, played by Pollyanna McIntosh and Jarl Kare, played by Asbjorn Krogh Nissen.
For those who are impatient to know what this spin-off will give, know that the series Vikings: Valhalla will land in the course of this year 2021. Moreover, the first season has already been filmed in Ireland during the period of Covid-19 but respecting the necessary health protocols. About 30 workers had also been infected and the directors booked a large hotel in which all the actors were quarantined and the tests took place twice a day.
