Good news for Star Wars fans! A new mystery on a key point of the saga has indeed just been lifted: it concerns Palpatine and the Jedi. For a long time, many wondered how the Sith Lord did to weaken the Jedi by cutting them off from the Force?
Remember, this detail was brought up in Episode 2 (Attack of the Clones) when the Jedi Council admitted that his ability to use the Force had greatly diminished … fans were then convinced that Palpatine must surely be there to Something. Yes but how ?
Well, it took almost 20 years after the prequel trilogy for fans to finally get the answer to that question! The veil has been subtly lifted in "Light of the Jedi" by Charles Soule, a new Star Wars Universe novel which has just recently landed in bookstores.
Anger, fear, pain …
The story told in "Light of the Jedi" takes place approximately 200 years before the events staged in "Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace".
Well part of the novel focuses on the imprisonment of a Jedi master by an enemy who has managed to subdue him and weaken him . Proud of himself, the enemy then reveals all the details on the secret to cut a Jedi from the Force: all that is required is to immerse him in an environment filled with negative feelings such as anger, fear or even pain. As Lucasfilm's Dave Filoni explains, “The Force exists naturally in balance […] This balance is thrown when someone chooses to give in to their fears and spirals out of control making selfish choice after selfish choice. Fear leads to anger, leads from anger to hatred, leads from hatred to suffering. "
Immersed in such environments of darkness, the Jedi find it very difficult to focus and call upon the Force, and it is this weakness that Palpatine has managed to harness brilliantly.

An evil plan
If there's one point Star Wars fans agree on, it's that Palpatine really is a formidable foe, he's so devilishly intelligent. For years, the one who calls himself "Darth Sidious" had slowly and patiently woven a web of horror and darkness to trap and weaken the Jedi when the time came: so in Clone Wars feelings of fear and hatred were to be found. their climax, and that's what dramatically reduced the power of the Jedi.
Then by dint of shenanigans, followed by an unexpected betrayal, the Sith managed to make short work of the Order, its masters and its apprentices … and the latter will have to wait a few more years before being able to take their revenge. But that's a whole different story!
