Microsoft will be rolling out a new Windows 10 update next spring, the famous (and much anticipated) Creators Update. In the meantime, the firm is building a series of builds and has just rolled out a new one with the Insiders, with a lot of new features. New features related to the start menu, the web browser or even the brand's virtual assistant.
Build 15002 , this is its number, brings many improvements to the system, improvements that relate to its interface, but also to its various modules.
Microsoft Edge benefits greatly from these improvements.
Microsoft Edge, even smarter
This new version gives many additional functions to the brand's browser. The most important of all relates to tabs. The firm has indeed integrated a new button in its browser, a button to instantly display a banner grouping together the thumbnails of all the tabs open in the program.
Still in the same vein, Edge also offers another button through which the user can put all open tabs aside, to find them more easily later.
Among the other interesting improvements, there is one related to the famous InPrivate mode. It will no longer be necessary to go through the browser menu to launch it and it will suffice to right click on the program icon in the taskbar and find the appropriate option.
Do you need more? No problem, Edge also offers a new function capable of blocking all Flash content of dubious origin. At the same time, Microsoft engineers have made numerous adjustments to make their program even faster and more responsive. Better, the new version of the browser even comes with an API dedicated to online payment, an API that gives pride of place to Wallet and which should be of great interest to developers.
A more intuitive start menu
Windows 10 build 15002 makes one or two interesting changes to the start menu.
This version will notably allow you to group several tiles in a folder. To do so, simply grab the tile of your choice and move it to another tile. The system will automatically create the folder in the process and then you just have to drag all the other tiles of your choice into it.
When you want to access the contents of the folder, just click on it and the tiles inside will appear below, as if nothing had happened.
Windows Ink is enriched with several highlighting options
Windows Ink is not left out either. With this new version, users will have access to more options for the highlighter and will be able to finely configure its size and color.
Better still, a new point erasure option has also been implemented and it will allow us to erase only part of our features without affecting the rest.
Cortana is getting smarter
This new build brings a lot of notable changes to Cortana.
It includes more commands that can be used by developers. Thanks to them, they can save precious time and configure automatic actions, such as launching a radio station, playing a movie or finding a recipe.
At the same time, Microsoft has also launched a new section in its store to highlight applications compatible with Cortana. An extremely wise choice.
Cortana will also be able to configure the recurrence of reminders (every month, every year). Be careful though, because Microsoft has also decided to disable the wizard's keyboard shortcut by default. To reactivate it, you will have to browse through the settings of the assistant.
And then ?
Among the other novelties brought by this version, one can quote the integration of a filter specially designed for blue light or even the support of braille, a function which was obviously eagerly awaited by all the blind people or those suffering from eye disorders.
At the same time, Microsoft has also implemented a new capture function. It will now be enough to press Win + Shift + S to capture an area of the screen, a bit like what macOS offers.
Better, this version also includes a function to improve the compatibility of the system with high resolutions. Behind, Microsoft has also retouched some animations to make them more fluid.
There are also best for VPNs and… for calendar, with Chinese lunar calendar support.
The same goes for Windows Defender which sees new options to run quick, advanced or full scans. It will also be able to give us information on the state of health of our computer.
Also new on the side of the settings screen. Microsoft has thus chosen to combine the menu dedicated to Bluetooth and that dedicated to connected devices. Once again, this is a smart choice. Other screens have also undergone a facelift, particularly the one devoted to display.
This only concerns a few people, but the firm has also set up a new menu dedicated to the Surface Dial. Users will be able to configure the accessory's shortcuts in a matter of moments and without having to fiddle with anything.
So much for the outline. If you want to know more, the best is still to refer to the complete changelog , available at this address . Ah, and know that Microsoft has confirmed the implementation of the GSOD and therefore the Green Screen of Death. It simply makes it possible to distinguish between the latest stable version of Windows 10 and the builds deployed to members of the Windows Insider program.
