Nintendo has breathed new life into the Zelda franchise with Breath of the Wild on Wii U and Switch. The Japanese firm will confirm, in passing, its philosophy recently evoked by Miyamoto: the important thing is to offer unique experiences . And Breath of the Wild did it brilliantly, offering an open world with a big component of crafting , a new artistic direction, a new approach for the Zelda license. Result? A commercial success but above all critical (a score of 97/100 at Metacritic which gathers all the opinions of the press) for Nintendo. Several years after its release, Breath of the Wild reveals a new secret.
A user discovered that the game's NPCs are imported directly… from Mii characters, avatars available on Wii U / 3DS.
The latter even had fun comparing, using an image, the transposition of Mii to the NPCs of Breath of the Wild , but also the reverse.
Nintendo drew on its own resources
Warning ! If Nintendo preferred to draw on its own resources, this information does not de facto make Breath of the Wild lazy in its construction or bad . It's just funny to realize that even a video game master sometimes chooses some form of ease (but with a result, let's face it, brilliant).
As this user called I'm Alice points out, it was the Miis of the Wii U / 3DS, namely avatars intended for these consoles, that were used to build the NPCs for the Zelda game in the open world.
But I'm Alice wanted to go even further and import her own Miis into Breath of the Wild to support her discovery. The woman used those from the Super Smash Bros. games. Ultimate and Wii Sports, in particular. And compatibility level, that's all good!
If this conversion technique was used by Nintendo to create these NPCs, some have been " spared " and modeled 100%, like Zelda or Link , who is the playable character of Breath of the Wild. Even more surprisingly, it is also possible to import game characters to Wii U / 3DS. Kind of fun backward compatibility!
Hi, Mii expert here. Turns out, the NPCs in TLoZ: BotW use an advanced version of the Mii format. This means that with modding, you can inject Miis into the game. 🙂
Thinking about opening commissions for Mii injects, both screenshot / images of your Mii and mod downloads! pic.twitter.com/8NfVr4zyqA
